Mérida (Progreso), Mexico

Call in Mérida, capital of the Mexican state of Yucatán. More than half of the city’s welcoming residents are of Mayan descent, infusing the culture with a rich and deep heritage. Drive from Progreso to Mérida and learn all about the Yucatán heritage and traditions on a panoramic tour. You will see the French-inspired Paseo de Montejo boulevard, the country’s national monument, the 19th-century Governor’s Palace and Mérida Cathedral, built in 1774. Or, choose to travel through the flat expanse of the Yucatán Peninsula to Chichén Itzá, one of the most important archaeological sites in the Americas. Marvel at the symmetry of the Kukulcan Temple, known to los conquistadores as El Castillo, and view the Temple of the Warriors, the observatory and the sacred cenote, a natural sinkhole central to Mayan religious life.
