Day 3 - Siem Reap

Today, explore one of the world’s most important archaeological sites: Angkor. Begin at the fortified city of Angkor Thom and stroll through some of Angkor’s most popular sites: the Terrace of the Elephants, Terrace of the Leper Kings and mysterious Bayon Temple. Continue to Ta Prohm, left largely intact since its discovery. After lunch, journey to Banteay Srey Temple and wander among the ruins, admiring the well-preserved intricate carvings, before dinner at a local restaurant. (B, L, D)

Day 4 - Siem Reap

Today, continue your discovery of Khmer architecture and art. See the delicate artistry and intricate stone carvings of Angkor Wat, the crown jewel of Khmer architecture and a UNESCO Site. Afterward, visit Theam’s House, the home-cum-atelier of local artist Lim Muy Theam, and view his work—lacquers, paintings and sculptures inspired by Khmer traditions. Day 2 - Ubud

Set out on a full-day guided tour of Ubud, the cultural center of Bali. Visit the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary, home to hundreds of long-tailed macaques and three ancient temples. Take a tour of the Puri Saren, where the royal family still resides, and the Puri Lukisan Museum to explore exhibits of Balinese art. You will also enjoy a special visit to a Balinese home to witness how local villagers live, and understand more about their culture and the importance of cosmic harmony. (B, L)

Day 3 - Ubud

Today, you have a full day at leisure. Or you may choose to join an optional excursion visiting the 11th-century rock-cut shrines of Tampaksiring’s Gunung Kawi Temple, the impressive Mt. Batur in Kintamani and the iconic rice terraces of Tegallalang, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Tonight, enjoy dinner at a local restaurant, followed by a Barong dance performance that tells the mythological tale of how King Erlangga, with the help of the spirit king Barong, defeated the evil witch Rangda. Behold an enormous 2,000-year-old terraced temple that rises, pyramid-like, amid emerald forests and fields. You will travel overland for approximately 3 hours through the “Garden of Java” to reach 9th-century Borobudur, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The temple is remarkable not just for its beauty but for the symbolism of its design. Borobudur mimics the shape of a lotus and every aspect of it represents Buddhist views of the cosmos. There are six stacked square platforms topped by three circular ones, a central dome, and four stairways that lead to the top. Practically every square inch is covered with sculptural reliefs and there are 504 Buddha statues, making it a popular pilgrimage site. Here, alight your motor coach and stroll past historic Dutch heritage buildings to the Blenduk Church, dating back to 1753 and the oldest church in central Java. Continue to Ranggawarsita Museum, home to an ethnographic collection of almost 60,000 items reflecting the culture and traditions of West Java. The museum’s exhibits consist of antiquities, paintings and other artifacts, which are displayed in four different themed houses. Nijō Castle and the Golden Pavilion
